In this spotlight, we showcase our latest project at Pleasant View Golf Course in Middleton, where we masterfully combined softscape landscaping with hardscape design to enhance their new signage. Client and Project Background: A Course Close to Home

Pleasant View Golf Course is a beloved municipal course that has seen several updates in recent years. We have had the pleasure of collaborating with them on various projects around the clubhouse, but this latest initiative represents a significant enhancement, given its visibility to both visitors and the passing public.

Located just a golf shot away from the Carrington Lawn & Landscape office, the course holds a special place in our hearts. Several staff members, including President and Founder Sean Carrington, golf here, making this project even more meaningful for our team. The recent road overhaul provided the perfect opportunity to elevate the entry experience, allowing us to create a striking and inviting signage installation that benefits not only the golf course but also the wider community. With its prime location and the pride we feel for our local community, this project was a chance for us to showcase our skills and creativity while reinforcing our commitment to enhancing the spaces we cherish.

The Project: Crafting a Statement

This project combined a new signage wall with complementary softscape landscaping, guided by Project Manager Mark Thomas and Landscape Production Manager Connor Seamonson. Every detail was crafted to create a stunning visual impact.

The wall was built using Unilock U-Cara®, chosen for its aesthetic appeal. We tackled the challenge of adapting it to a curved layout, collaborating closely with our Unilock representative to achieve a flawless finish.

 

The plants were a simple palette of some of our absolute favorites—plants with high visual value and durable hardiness:

• Sporobolus heterolepis (Prairie Dropseed): Adds texture and movement.
• Nepeta hybrid ‘Cat’s Pajamas (Catmint): A vibrant flowering perennial.
• Juniperus chinensis ‘Mountbatten’ (Mountbatten Juniper): An upright evergreen for year-round structure.

These plants were grouped to create a cohesive look, allowing them to shine as they mature and create a striking visual statement.

A standout moment in the project was when crew member Ben took the lead on the softscape installation for the first time, earning praise from both the team and project managers for his enthusiasm and expertise. This project not only improved the golf course’s signage visibility but also showcased our team’s skills and creativity, creating an inviting entryway that will impress visitors for years to come.

The Challenges: Customizing Materials to Meet Our Vision

One of the key challenges was adapting the Unilock U-Cara wall system to fit the specified curved layout. Typically designed for straight applications, it required innovative customization. Our team collaborated closely with our Unilock representative to ensure that the final product was both structurally sound and visually appealing.

Additionally, we had to shuffle our project schedule to align with the golf course’s major annual outing, ensuring the landscaping was completed in time for this high-profile event.

The result is a breathtaking landscape that beautifully frames the new signage. As drivers pass by, the signage stands out, enhanced by the thoughtfully designed softscape, which will continue to thrive.
