Ornamental Shrub Pruning

We view our ornamental landscape plant pruning as an art. We prune to meet individual property owners specific desires. Contemporary shape pruning is done for crisp perfection of shapes while Natural hand pruning encourages a more traditional and organic growth pattern.
Rejuvenation pruning can be done at most any time of year. From neglected shrubs that need to be reclaimed for either aesthetics or functionality of space to simply increasing the number of blooms your flowering shrubs will burst with the following Spring, we will maximize the present and future growth allowing your ornamental to look their best.

Tree Pruning & Removal

Trees are no different than other landscape plantings. They need maintenance pruning to look their best and grow in the way they were intended to upon original planting. Our ISA Certified Arborist will diagnose what your trees need and draft a program to help them thrive. In the event they need to be removed, we offer removal services as well as stump grinding services.

Nothing sharpens the look of a landscape like fresh mulch. Besides appearance, having the right amount of mulch is critical to the health of your landscape plantings. It helps keep moisture in the ground by the plants root system while organically decomposing over time giving nutrients back to the soil. Beds should be topped off each season with a thin layer rather than mounding up the beds every few years. Three to four inches is usually desired in most beds. Mulch also helps prevent weeds from germinating and becoming eye soars. To further prevent weeds, pre-emergent weed control should be applied before installation (see next item below).

We will install any type of mulch you desire and stock two kinds: Standard double shredded hardwood bark mulch (brown) and a premium double shredded oak product stained deep brown to hold its color longer. We also offer coco-bean mulch to annual flower beds where bark mulch cannot be applied. Delivery only or installation is always available.

Landscape Bed Weed Control

A critical part of lawn maintenance is weed control. There are three methods we use to control weeds in mulch and rock beds. Hand weeding, pre-emergent herbicide treatments and post-emergent herbicide treatments all have their time and place. Most often the best way to control weeds is by using a combination of these three methods or by choosing the most appropriate based on conditions and customer needs. Non-chemical options are also available.

Pre-Emergent Weed Control

This herbicide is applied to mulch and rock beds to prevent weed seeds from ever germinating. It is usually applied in the spring, but can be applied any time during the growing season. We usually only make one application per season with this service.

Post-Emergent Weed Control

This herbicide is applied to existing weeds in mulch and rock beds. Depending on your demands for keeping your property weed-free, the number of applications for this lawn treatment service varies. We usually set up a schedule (monthly or bi-monthly) for applications to all your landscape beds.

Flower Planting

There is no better way to add beauty to your landscape than a season long evolving flower arrangement. Starting with bulbs bursting in the early spring, progressing into an exquisite annual display and then finishing the growing season with fall color is how we can beautify your yard all season long. Our horticulturists will draft a plan to make your yard the envy of the neighborhood throughout the year. We love to plant directly in the ground or in decorative containers. Sidewalk, Curb and Driveway Edging

This lawn care service defines the concrete borders of your lawn and gives it a clean manicured look. Turf overgrowth (both grass and soil) onto concrete is natural and can take away from the overall appearance of your lawn. Edging removes this overgrown turf and gives your lawn a crisp, clean appearance. The more often you edge, the less overgrowth there is. This makes is easier for us and is why we offer edging as a monthly service at drastically reduced rates. It also keeps your edges looking good all season, rather than once or twice a year.

Keeping roofs and gutters free from debris is an essential step to protecting your home. We will set up a schedule to ensure that you avoid costly interior repairs by keeping your gutters clear when vegetation collects in them.

One thing is for certain in the Madison area-the leaves always fall! We offer full service clean ups as part of our yard maintenance services.  Our full service clean ups include the removal and disposal of all your undesirable lawn refuse. At the time of clean ups, we often encourage our customers to sign up for shrub pruning and perennial bed clearing as it is a good time to prune and clear out beds.
